2019 NCAA D3 Women’s Tournament Preview

Breadcrumb Navigation

We used our StatGeek Analytics model to predict all 63 games in the 2019 NCAA D3 Women’s Basketball Tournament.  The model is based on data from the past ten seasons and takes into account stats from the current season to give a probability of who is most likely to win any matchup. Upset Anyone?

The model doesn’t see too many early on but it has Christopher Newport knocking off host Gettysburg in the first round.  Our model also loves the Trine Thunder and sees them not only knocking off Thomas More in the second round but going all the way to the Final Four.  Another one of our Final Four teams, Hope, would have to win at Wartburg in round two to keep our predictions true.

How About Big Names?

A sectional of St. Thomas (MN), Amherst, UW-Oshkosh and Hope brings a total of six national championships together.  In the other sectionals, give us Trine vs Transylvania, UTD vs George Fox, Scranton vs Christopher Newport, Messiah vs Tufts, DeSales vs Ithaca and SUNY-New Paltz vs Bowdoin.

Will there be a Three-peat?

Our model loves the NESCAC with Amherst, Bowdoin and Tufts surviving the opening weekend.  But we see the defending champs losing to Hope in the sectional finals.

So, our Final Four Teams?

Give us Trine, Tufts, Hope and DeSales going to Salem with another NESCAC champion, this time the Jumbos.
